Weekly sword and buckler classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Northeast corner of the Anchorage Dome located at 6501 Changepoint Drive in Anchorage (please see the Location tab for more details). Each class incorporates the development of fundamental skills, technique exchange, and conditioning in a relaxed but mindful atmosphere.
At this time, there is no cost for attending sword and buckler classes. Students are encouraged to invest the money that they might otherwise spend on class in purchasing training equipment needed for participation in class (discussed below). There is an entrance fee to access the Anchorage Dome. Please check with the staff at the Anchorage Dome for current admission rates and/or monthly or annual membership passes.
Prospective students are encouraged to attend a class to either watch or participate. As a courtesy, please make arrangements in advance if you would like to attend a class (please see the Contacts link on this website).
The following training equipment is needed to participate in sword and buckler classes at Fiddlebow Fechtschule:
- Fencing Mask;
- Training Sword—blunted medieval style arming sword or I.33 sword (single handed sword with blade length approx. 30″);
- Buckler (approximately 12” in diameter);
- Neck/Throat Protection;
- Gloves (leather); and
- Water Bottle.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ASK BEFORE YOU BUY A TRAINING SWORD OR BUCKLER. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF SWORDS AND BUCKLERS ON THE MARKET MANY OF WHICH MAY NOT BE SUITABLE.
Fiddlebow Fechtschule has swords, bucklers, and fencing masks, which may be made available for use by new students upon request. Due to the fact that training equipment available for loan is limited, please make arrangements well in advance of class if you need to borrow a sword, buckler, or fencing mask during class. Existing students who attend class regularly (and who are diligently making efforts to purchase their own training equipment) have a priority in terms of loaner equipment.
