About Fiddlebow Fechtschule
Fiddlebow Fechtschule is a fencing school dedicated exclusively to the medieval sword and buckler fighting system derived from the Royal Armouries MS I.33 text, the oldest known European fighting treatise.
The name of the school is taken from one of the guards illustrated in the MS I.33 text, “Vidilpoge,” or “Fiddlebow” in modern English. Although the MS I.33 text is believed to have originated in the late 13th to early 14th century, the techniques depicted are believed to be much older in origin. References to the term “Fiddlebow” in the context of German swordsmanship appear in the German epic poem the Nibelungenlied which dates back to around 1200 A.D. The term “Fechtschule” means fight school.
Fiddlebow Fechtschule holds weekly classes on the use of the medieval sword and buckler and related skills throughout the year in Anchorage.
